From Spring 2008, 0870 numbers will no longer offer a revenue share option for owners.
As part of the change, the cost of a call to an 0870 number will now match the standard national rate. What's more, companies with these numbers will be charged by the minute for every incoming call they receive on their 0870 numbers.
These changes are a result of a review of 0870 numbers by UK regulator Ofcom and the changes are designed to make non geographic numbers (NGNs) simpler for consumers to understand.

0800 and 0808 - These are free for your customers to call, you pay for each call you receive on a pence per minute basis.
03x This new range will be charged at no more than the cost of a UK call. There is a small pence per minute charge to you for each call you receive.
0845 This will continue to be charged at up to 4p per minute to the caller and there is no charge to you for each call you receive.
0844 This will continue to be charged at up to 5p per minute to the caller and will still allow some revenue share.
0870 Existing 0870 numbers can be retained but will lose their revenue share and will be charged at the same rates as 03* numbers.
0871 These numbers will still be charged at up to 10p per minute to the caller but will now be classed as premium rate numbers.
